J Vet Res, (1) : 29-38, 2007. This study was
conducted in order to isolate and
characterize bacteria and fungi from the healthy ear of dogs and to
obtain
susceptibility profiles on each bacterial isolate. Samples were
obtained from the
horizontal external ear canal of 60 healthy dogs. Bacteria
were isolated from 62 (52%) and fungi from 19 (16%) ear canals,
respectively. Staphylococci
36 (59%), Bacillus spp. 19 (31%),
streptococci
7 (11%), Scopulariopsis spp.
4 (21%), Aspergillus spp.
2 (11%), Cladosporium spp. 2 (11%), Alternaria
spp. 1 (5%), penicillium
spp. 1 (5%), and yeasts 9 (47%) were
isolated. Tylosin was most inhibitory antiobiotic and bacitracin
the least.
