ABSTRACT

Vinci A, Brunetti B, Mazzi A, Sarli G, Cystic hyperplasia of gall bladder in a dog, Online Journal of Veterinary Research 11 (3): 32-34, 2007.  An 11 year old female dog was admitted to the Veterinary Clinical Department at Bologna University with a clinical history of anorexia, constipation and ptyalism. Clinical findings included a rectal temperature of 35,3°C, depression and jaundice. The dog was euthanized for necroscopy: Gross changes included jaundice of the dermis, subcutis, sclerae and non-patency of the bile duct. The diagnosis was  jaundice caused by extra-hepatic cholestasis. Microscopical examination showed an hyperplastic epithelium forming intramural cysts of the gall bladder and extrahepatic bile duct to the duodenum. Unlike other cases described in literature where cystic hyperplasia of gall bladder does not provided any clinical evidence, this case was peculiar because the pathology was responsible for the extra-hepatic jaundice syndrome.

Keys words: Cyst, Dog, Gall bladder, Hyperplasia, Jaundice.
